Multiple Linux Servers tied to one password
Posted: 03 Sep 2009 1:06 PM

Is there a way (and if not - I think its a good feature request), to have one Linux/SSH password be tied to multiple servers? For example, this would let us have one password for ROOT, synced across all Linux hosts.

Not sure if this would be done through a template, or if there is a way to add a Linux "Dependancy" that would allow them to be tied together.

Any help would be GREAT! Our Windows users are loving this - but I'm trying to get the Linux admins onboard...

Hello Jason,

Currently, each secret is mapped to one password. Right now, the only way to synchronize a single password among multiple accounts is to have one secret for each account.

I have added your suggestion as a feature request. Thank you!

Hi David. Since your last posting, has any progress been made with the single password for multiple computer objects for this feature? We are very interested in mapping single user-accounts & respective passwords to multiple computer objects in our environment without the need of creating multiple secrets for every single computer. For example, for an Active-Directory Account secret, when you open it, we would like the option of having a pull-down menu with pre-populated computer objects (which we will populate) that allows you to select to computer object that we want to RDP into. This feature would make Secret Server a very flexible, enterprise wide solution.

Best,

- Jeff

Jeff,

We are investigating a solution to this problem. Would it be workable to click the Launcher icon, it prompts for a server name (you type it in) and then it logs you into that server using the username/password?

Thanks!

Hi Jonathan. Thanks for the response. Yes, that would actually do the trick. How do we go about getting the prompt for the server name?

It will require some development. I will see if we can get it into the upcoming Secret Server 7 release.

Very cool. By chance, do you happen to know when the next version of SS will be released? Thanks again.

Best,

We don't have an official date yet but it is likely to be Feb 2010.
