Yes, they will need the administer folder role as well.
If Secrets are inheriting from the folder then they will lose the ability to share the Secret. You can explicitly share the Secret to a user and make them an owner or have the Secret that they need ownership on moved to a folder that they own.

Kind Regards,
Joshua Conroy

Also, i think the reason I made them "owners" of the folder they are creating secrets in is because you have to be an Owner of the secret in order to be able to share it. Is that true?

It seemed that when just having "Edit" permissions and if the secret inherited from the folder than they lost the ability to share the secrets in that folder if need be.

Thanks Joshua, I would still need to add to the User role the "Administer Folder" permission correct?

They would have to go to Administration --> Folder Administration to manage their folders?

Just making sure I'm not missing a button or alternative link to create folders that users may have.

Thanks again,
Nick

Hello Nick,

Changing the permission from "Owner" to "Edit" will accomplish what you are looking for. User will be able to create their own sub-folders, but they will no be able to delete that main folder. They will however be able to move/delete any folder they are owner of.
Also note that should a folder be deleted the Secrets in that folder do not get deleted they are simply moved to the root directory.

Kind Regards,
Joshua Conroy
Thycotic Software

Is there any clever way that you can provide permissions so that users who are "Owners" of a folder can create child folders underneath without giving them the ability to do bad things like move their folder to the root of secret server?

Seems like the permissions are there for it given the description of the "Owner" role but the tool for "Administer Folders" seems to unrestricted to provide it to all my users and not expect them to make awful mistakes.
