To give you a little background on the history behind "1991":

In the early days, Secret Server supported Microsoft Access as a backend in addition to SQL Server. Access had much lower limit for the length of text that could be stored. In addition, we supported SQL Server 2000 which made it a difficult to have large text sizes and still maintain reasonable performance.

The internal limit is actually 2000, the missing 9 go to a little cryptographic overhead.

As we do not support Access or SQL 2000 anymore, we can raise the limit. We will be upping the limit to 10,000 characters for all Secret fields in an upcoming release.

Has there been any update with having the ability to have more than 1991 characters on a notes field?

One of the “secrets” we would like to store there is the script we use to setup passwords in production each release. Attaching a file with this doesnt work for what we want.
