Hi there,
I'm looking around inside the forum and I see some similar request.
We are using Secret Server for our company and the product is really great. We are using mobile apps also for on-the-road access.
But, we work at desks 80% of time, and browsing, copy and paste all the time is a pain.
Are there some news about a Windows app for accessing our secret server?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Nicola,
Thanks for the feedback. We do have a Windows client on the roadmap. Its primary goal right now is to offer a way to access Secrets offline, similar to the mobile apps.
Can you provide some more information on what part of the Secret Server web experience is problematic for you?

Thanks Ben,
using Secret Server from web interface is annoying beacause of the web structure itself.
We need to open our browser (mainly Firefox, click on a bookmark or shortcut, login, search, copy the username, copy the password, etc.).
With a Windows clients I suppose we could speed up the process a bit, more or less like KeePass (that we use for private secrets). This software can smartly open url, auto-compile login forum, etc.). Having an application ready in the systray could be useful too.
Like some others say, the Secret Server interface could be better; graphical aspect apart (can surely be better), it's a bit slow to browse between pages and it seems that ajax is not the paradigm on which the ui is built on.
Any ETA for a beta of the Windows client?
Thanks again for your attention.

Thanks for the info Nicola.
What version of Secret Server are you using? The new dashboard offers some features to make accessing Secrets easier and quicker. First of all you can pin Folders as tabs if you find yourself searching in a specific folder. Additionally you can save searches in tabs so you can quickly bring up results:
<a href="http://blog.thycotic.com/2011/03/14/saved-searches-in-secret-server-dashboard/">http://blog.thycotic.com/2011/03/14/saved-searches-in-secret-server-dashboard/</a>
Currently there is set ETA for the Windows client beta, but I've added your name to the feature so we can notify you when one is available.
Thanks, Ben

We are using the latest version.
Surely the new dashboard is a step forward, but the web access for allday tasks is uncomfortable (and the web ui can be however improved).
Anyway, we love Secret Server!

My opinion is that a windows app is a step back in a unified solution in today's applications. Having a windows app is nice as an option for some people, but the core of what Secret Server is should not change. Everything is web-based, and offers the best in mobility. A windows app (we moved to Secret Server from KeePass) add's a ton of restrictions. Having an IT staff of about 60 people globally, we have found the web interface of a password management solution to be far superior over a shared windows app.
I'll agree that the UI of secret server needs a lot of improvement, but I'm glad to see that Thycotic is working more "under the hood", than the bells and whistles.

Secret Server already has the ability to launch URL's and auto complete username/passwords.

Nick,
I'm totally agree. The main goal of Secret Server is the web structure, and more, a centralized archive of secrets (on Internet).
A Windows app could be usefull for allday tasks at the desk.
The autocomplete launcher that you point out, if I'm not wrong, only works with IE.

Nicola,
The Web Launcher works in other browsers besides IE (Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
Are you having issues in other browsers? We can open up a support ticket if you want to resolve any issues you're having.
