2. modify install.rdf to the following strings:

2.2 5.0.*

Regarding version, the install.rdf file contains

1. extract the file (7zip can do this)
2. modify install.rdf to the following strings:
2.1 1.2.2.1
2.2 5.0.*
3. Zip (7zip) the extracted content as microsoft_net_framework_assistant-1.2.2.1-fx-windows.zip make sure to not pack with the parent folder name and to use .zip as filetype!
4. rename to microsoft_net_framework_assistant-1.2.2.1-fx-windows.xpi

It's been working for me, but of course no warranty ;-)

Firefox will automatically check for updates periodically, or when a new version is installed.

Firefox 5.0:
1. Click the "Firefox" tab in the top left.
2. Click "Add-ons"
3. Click the Gear icon in the upper right-hand corner and select "Check for Updates"
