At this point we can only recommend Microsoft's guide for the installation.

1. It may be possible, but we have not tested that upgrade path.

2. It is strongly recommended that both the primary and secondary always run the same patches as each other.

Thanks for the details. Couple of questions.

The url says that mirroring needs to be disabled when upgrading to sp2 and recreating it after the upgrade.

1. cant i upgrade to sp2 when the mirrioring in use, i.e upgrading to mirror instance to sp2 first, then primary by making the mirroring instance to primary and then upgrading witness.?

2. will there be any issues in DB replication if secondary is running sp2 and primary & witness running sp1?

Microsoft has a published documentation on how to properly upgrade a mirror set here:

We recommend that these guidelines be followed to minimum downtime and issues.

I need to upgrade my primary, secondary and witness to sql 2008 sp2. What precautions do i need to take so that HA configuration shoudn't get disturbed during the upgrade.

YI, Primary adn Secondary are running SQL 2008 SP1. Witness is runnning sql 2008 sp1 express edition.
